Behaviour consultations
Behaviour consultations are best carried out in your own home in order to see your dog in his "natural" environment, and to discuss the concerns with all family members. Before I see your dog for behavioural issues it is important that I obtain consent from your vet to ensure that there are no complicating medical conditions which may be affecting your dog's behaviour. In some cases I may request a pre-consult behaviour and history questionnaire is completed before my visit.
Please allow at least three hours for a behavioural consultation. Ideally all family members should be present. During this time I will take a detailed history of your dog as necessary, review any advice given in the pre-visit phone call (if applicable), observe your dog's behaviour and interactions with family members, and explore the possible reasons for your dog's behaviour. We will then discuss and formulate the appropriate courses of action that you feel able to carry out, with on-going support from myself as necessary . I may need to show you how to train your dog some specific behaviours, and demonstrate how to handle your dog in certain situations. Sometimes it is necessary for the dog to come for some follow-up sessions at my premises - this is particularly relevant for any dog presenting with aggression.
